IDC’s Regional Impact Breakfast program, presented by ShawContract, celebrates the significant contributions of Canadian design professionals and the impact their legacy continues to have on the interior design community.
Impact Breakfast West will be hosted in Calgary, Alta. on Nov. 26, 2024, at Mount Royal University. The event will honour Jacqui McFarland, Principal at Stantec.
Since 1984, Jacqui McFarland has enjoyed two distinct award-winning careers as both a university professor and practicing interior designer. She is known for her ability to thoughtfully engage clients and translate their aspirations into uplifting interiors that meet realistic needs. She has worked on a number of significant projects that, at their core, have helped people and communities thrive. Some of Jacqui’s notable Calgary Projects include BMO Centre Expansion, First Canadian Centre and Gulf Canada Square Refurbishments, the ATCO Commercial Commons, and the recent Bow Valley College ESports Arena.
Prior to interior design practice, Jacqui served as Department Chair in the Interior Design program at Mount Royal University (Calgary, Alberta). She was bestowed the title of Professor Emerita and received the Faculty of Distinction Teaching Award. As Chair of the department, Jacqui led the transformation of Mount Royal’s Interior Design program from a 2-year diploma program to a CIDA-accredited Bachelor of Applied Interior Design with the intent to elevate Alberta’s Interior Design graduates for professional practice. Most recently, Jacqui was designated a Fellow with the Interior Design Educators Council for her service and scholarship with North America’s Interior Design body of design educators. She currently serves as a Commissioner with the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). She has written and presented on numerous occasions across North America on topics that focus on Healing Environments, The Function of Beauty, and The Future of Work.
Jacqui will be live on stage in conversation with Alan Antioquia, who holds a Master of Architecture, a Bachelor of Applied Interior Design, and a Bachelor of Biological Science. His interior design and architectural experiences include commercial, retail, restaurant, and low-rise multi-family housing designs, in addition to retail tenant coordination. A continued interest in building systems that create the built environment and shaping of human experiences through interior design and architecture, these themes have guided his practice, research and teaching.
Alan has over ten years of teaching experience and is an Associate Professor and current Chair of the Interior Design program at Mount Royal University. He is also a Registered Designer with the Interior Designers of Alberta and is the current president of the association.
Don’t miss this opportunity to network with your local design community, enjoy a delicious breakfast, and hear about the successes, challenges, and current state and future of design education from leading experts.
