On Friday, May 24, the Jean Augustine Centre (JAC) hosted the grand opening of its new Teen Room where parents and teens were welcomed to a vibrant new hub. The redesigned space offers a welcoming and inspiring environment for young women who benefit from the facility and its programs to connect, grow, and thrive.<\/p>\n

About the Jean Augustine Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women\u2019s Empowerment was opened in June 2014 by the Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine who saw a specific need in the community to create a space where girls and young women could be supported to reach their full potential.<\/p>\n

Located in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, Ontario, Canada, the centre offers in-person and online programming to girls and young women both locally and across Canada.<\/p>\n

Participants come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, with over 50% of participants from additionally underrepresented communities (Black, racialized, or LGBTQIA2S+) and many from low-income and\/or single-parent households.<\/p>\n

The centre is committed to building the self-esteem of young women and girls by positively influencing their outlook on life, broadening their horizons, and helping them to empower themselves.<\/p>\n

About the JAC project<\/strong><\/p>\n

The redesigned Teen Room is a safe space for teen girls to access programs and services to support their social, academic, and personal development.<\/p>\n

This revitalization ensures programs can be fully delivered in a space where participants feel welcomed and valued and want to access JAC services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough mentorship, empowerment programs, and experiential learning, the Jean Augustine Centre serves a vital role in the community for young women to become the next generation of leaders,\u201d says IDC CEO, Trevor Kruse.<\/p>\n

IDC member Melissa Tossell and her team at Aurora Design Inc. are responsible for the redesign of the space, with generous funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, support from the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), and donations from the following sponsors:<\/p>\n
