{"id":12580,"date":"2023-02-16T11:46:08","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T16:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idcanada.org\/?p=12580"},"modified":"2023-02-22T11:18:07","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T16:18:07","slug":"rdi-announces-student-design-competition-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idcanada.org\/fr\/rdi-announces-student-design-competition-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"RDI Announces Student Design Competition Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/retaildesigninstitute.org\/retail-design-institute-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Retail Design Institute (RDI)<\/a> is invested in developing the next generation of design talent; they aim to develop retail design programs to inspire, educate, and provide rich opportunities for emerging professionals. RDI believes that students in disciplines connected to retail design are the future.<\/p>\n<p>In the fall of 2022, Retail Design Institute Canada launched its first ever student-focused design competition to showcase the best student talent in the country: The Future of Retail Spaces.<\/p>\n<p>The competition was open to students from across Canada in their final year of architecture, experiential design, graphic design, gaming design, industrial design, interactive design, interior design and visual merchandising. Students were invited to craft a two-minute video narrative showcasing their creative retail design strategies from projects during their academic careers.<\/p>\n<p>The jury was comprised of esteemed creatives from the retail design field from across the country:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/paola-marques-2474bb1a\/\">Paola Marques<\/a>, Head of North America at Benoy \/ GH+A, Montreal, Que.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/marcella-au-a7721455\/\">Marcella Au<\/a>, Associate, Retail + Interiors Lead, BDP Quadrangle North America, Toronto, Ont.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/nick-iozzo-toronto\/\">Nick Iozzo<\/a>, President \/ Founder at the Ancillary Agency, Toronto, Ont.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/emilyrobinsauer\/\">Emily Robin Sauer<\/a>, Principal \u2013 Designer | Innovation + Strategy + Interiors, Emily Robin Design, Vancouver, B.C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The jury critiqued the videos on four elements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Creative approach to the video<\/li>\n<li>Innovation in retail design concepts<\/li>\n<li>Originality<\/li>\n<li>Brand Continuity<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The competition was generously sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benjaminmoore.com\/en-ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Benjamin Moore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/visualciti.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visual Citi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/en-ca\/welcome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sherwin Williams<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/division12.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Division Twelve<\/a>; Strategic Partner, <a href=\"https:\/\/idcanada.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interior Designers of Canada<\/a>; and Media Partners <a href=\"https:\/\/vmsd.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VMSD Magazine<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retailtouchpoints.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Retail Touch Points<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>First Place Winner <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12583 size-dp-ocp-square-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/idcanada.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Retail-Design-Institute-Canada_2023-Sudent-Design-Awards_1st-Place-400x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$3,000 cash prize awarded to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/melaina-santilli\/\"><strong>Melaina Santilli<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>Honours Bachelor of Interior Design student at Sheridan College in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada<\/li>\n<li>View Melania\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/MQNYtMXAjHI\">submission video<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Comments from the jury:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cA prolific video that was comprehensive and integrated hand sketches to show evolution of process. A powerful and confident submission.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMelaina\u2019s submission is confident, comprehensive and prolific.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI loved Melaina\u2019s breakdown of the process and symbolism and continuity of the flower opening and closing.
