The IDC Foundation (IDCF) Board of Directors would like to acknowledge the contributions of Chair, Carol Jones, whose term ended at the end of 2022.

Carol helped bring the IDCF to life after a ten-year period of relative dormancy, with the assistance of a board of volunteers and with support from IDC staff, who organize events to raise funds for the foundation and help promote the work of the foundation and IDC members across the country.

When a new board was appointed in 2020, they took stock of existing grants and funds, and developed a plan to enhance the IDCF’s support for education and research. IDCF administers the IDC Foundation Legacy Fund at Ryerson University, School of Graduate Studies, the Teknion/Global Fellowship at the University of Manitoba, Department of Interior Design along with three IDC scholarships and bursary programs – Wayne Thomson Scholarship, Robert Ledingham Scholarship, and the BYU Design Bursary.

Under Carol’s guidance, the IDCF organized a special event honouring the memory of Robert Ledingham, one of Canada’s most celebrated interior designers, who was instrumental in advancing the profession locally, nationally, and internationally. He was a leader in the development of the interior design educational accreditation process in North America. The Robert Ledingham Legacy program was established in 2013 by IDC and IDIBC and supports interior design postgraduate study.

The lecture series’ inaugural speaker was Klaus Nienkämper, one of Canada’s pre-eminent names in furniture design and manufacture. Nienkämper presented an in-depth look at his own personal journey in the industry, lessons learned along the way, and what lies ahead for furniture design, manufacture, and distribution. All donations through registration for the event were applied to the Robert Ledingham Scholarship fund and were generously matched by Nienkämper, for a total of $5,140 raised.

The IDCF continues to make a positive impact on the interior design and associated fields through grants, bursaries and scholarships. With your support, IDC can fund research and educational opportunities. Donate to the IDC Foundation today.

An in-depth annual report for the IDC Foundation will be published on IDC’s website in early 2023.
