Material Matters in Healthcare Settings

Specifying materials and finish surfaces for healthcare projects has become increasingly complex. Lessons learned from the pandemic emphasize the critical need to balance durability, cleanability, and sustainability. By developing comprehensive Owner Project Requirements (OPR) with input from an interdisciplinary team, decision-makers can identify, prioritize, and specify products that effectively support the health and well-being of patients, residents, staff, and visitors.

An expert panel will share strategies for aligning the diverse needs of stakeholders—including the C-suite, facility management, infection control, environmental services, quality assurance, and frontline care teams—alongside design professionals, product manufacturers, and installers. Attendees will gain insights into how multi-attribute certifications, ecolabels, and performance characteristics can streamline product selection and enhance decision-making. This session will equip attendees with the knowledge and resources to confidently specify products that meet performance demands without compromising sustainability, ultimately leading to more effective and resilient healthcare environments.
