BIFMA Learning Series – The Future of Senior Living: The Forces Driving Design

The first 2025 offering of BIFMA’s Learning Series, this free webinar will explore societal and economic forces shaping the senior living industry. Trends that will be explored include the 100-year life, workforce shortages, the middle-income market, and climate change. Implications of these trends on the diversity of housing options and furnishings solutions that are required to meet the huge need will be discussed by our healthcare and senior living design knowledge experts.

Sara Marberry; Marketing Consultant, Writer, Speaker, Blogger; Sara Marberry, LLC 

Sara Marberry is a nationally known healthcare and senior living design knowledge expert. A leading advocate for how the design of the physical environment can positively affect outcomes, she frequently speaks and writes about current trends and issues.

Sara brings her healthcare and senior living design expertise to the marketing work she does with product manufacturers, nonprofit organizations, and design firms. A founding board member of The Center for Health Design, Sara was instrumental in its growth and development, serving in various volunteer, consulting, and staff roles for 20+ years. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Center for Advanced Design Research and Evaluation (CADRE).

Sara is the recipient of the 2023 Founder’s Award from the Healthcare Facilities Symposium. She has also been featured on OFS’s “Imagine a Place” podcast, the Australian Health Design Council’s “Mixed Bag,” podcast, and Porcelanosa’s “Healthcare Interior Design 2.0” podcast.

Jen McDermott, NCIDQ; Principal | Global Practice Director, Senior Living Interiors, HKS

Jen infuses hospitality elements with the comfort of residential design to create unique signature experiences for seniors. She loves seeing the before and after of a repositioning project and finds it very rewarding to hear residents say great things about the work being done.

Helping to improve a resident’s life through the built environment is what keeps Jen excited. As Global Practice Director for Senior Living Interiors, she helps grow, develop, direct and oversee the senior living interiors group. Immersing herself in the location and the lifestyle of the residents they are designing for, her work has won numerous awards and been featured in Senior Living publications.
