BIFMA Learning Series – Understanding the BIFMA Standard for Furniture Ergonomics (accredited CEU)

BIFMA’s free learning webinar series returns!

There are many myths and misconceptions related to furniture ergonomics. This course pulls back the curtain to clarify the science and application of ergonomics parameters as outlined in ANSI/BIFMA X10.1 – Ergonomics Requirements for Furniture Designed for Computer Use. We’ll trace BIFMA’s decades-long engagement with ergonomics that has resulted in this standard. The scope and requirements are explained, allowing designers and anyone involved in furniture selection to make informed choices with health and well-being in the forefront for the full range of the population. The standard’s contribution to industry certifications LEVEL and WELL is also covered to ensure efforts on behalf of clients and the user can be recognized.

Lucy Hart, MSc, CCPE, WELL AP; Director of Workplace Ergonomics and Well-being; ergoCentric Seating Systems

Lucy Hart, MSc, CCPE, WELL AP, is the Director of Workplace Ergonomics and Well-being at ergoCentric.  She has over 30 years of experience guiding organizations in the application of ergonomics to enhance employee health, well-being and productivity. As a passionate occupant advocate, Lucy engages decision-makers to understand the intersection of ergonomics, well-being, and the built environment, and contextualizes office furniture within this framework. She is Chair of the BIFMA Ergonomics Subcommittee, which developed and maintains the BIFMA standard for furniture ergonomics. Lucy is also a Member and Past-Chair of the technical committee for the Canadian national standard CSA Z412 Office Ergonomics, member of the WELL Movement Advisory, and a Past-President of the Canadian College for the Certification of Professional Ergonomists. She was honored as a 2023 recipient of IWBI’s Next Frontier of Design Award
