SUMMARY:Danish Desire: The Enduring Influence of Danish Modern
DESCRIPTION:Join leading designers\, makers\, and educators from Canada and Denmark in an online discussion about the enduring influence of Modern Danish Design\, next Saturday\, January 23\, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. EST\, presented by The Royal Danish Consulate General and TORP\, and part of the 2021 DesignTO Festival. \nDenmark is globally recognised for producing some of the most iconic furniture\, architecture\, and product designs of the past 100 years. Danish design today continues to evolve and remains a significant contributor to design at large. With design culture robustly supported as part of the national identity\, new generations of contemporary designers continue the Danish tradition of working closely and collaboratively with craftspeople and architects to create lasting designs that balance beauty with function. \nWhat makes great design? How does culture affect designers and their creative output? What sustains Denmark’s rich design heritage? What can Denmark teach us about the cultural importance of supporting and educating talent to produce lasting design? What effect are new technologies having on design production? \nEvent Panelists are:\nKelly Buffey\, Principal of Akb Architects\, internationally recognized as one of Canada’s leading architects of private residential homes.\nJoanne Chan\, Principal of SDI Design\, a commercial design firm that focuses on Workplace design in Toronto.\nPeter Fleming\, Head of Furniture\, Sheridan College Bachelor of Craft and Design Program.\nKasper Holst Pedersen\, 3rd Generation Master Cabinet Maker and CEO of PP Møbler\, Denmark.\nLene Tanggaard\, Rector at Design School Kolding and Professor of Psychology in the Department of Communication and Psychology at the University of Aalborg\, Denmark.\n\nHosted by: Arne Nordtorp\, Owner\, TORP Inc. and Honorary Consul General to Denmark \nRegister today: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/9416105025063/WN_V2wJTYPEReq79TEke5Ls9A
